Weight Converter

The Weight Converter instantly converts between metric and imperial weight units, including milligrams, grams, kilograms, metric tons, ounces, pounds, and stone. It's frequently used for tracking body weight across US and UK/European sources that report in pounds versus kilograms or stone, as well as for cooking and shipping, where package weights and postage rates are often listed in the unit your country doesn't normally use. As with the Length Converter, all conversions use fixed international definitions, so the only imprecision comes from rounding the displayed result.

How This Tool Works

Enter a value and choose your source and target weight units for an instant conversion.

Formula & Method

All units convert through grams as a common base, e.g., 1 pound = 453.592 grams, 1 kilogram = 1,000 grams.

Example Calculation

150 pounds converts to about 68 kilograms, or 10.7 stone. A 185-pound person converts to about 83.9 kilograms, 13.2 stone, or 2,960 ounces — the kilogram figure is the one most gym equipment and medical charts outside the US use. A 1-pound bag of flour is about 453.6 grams, close to the 500-gram bags common in metric countries.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many pounds are in a kilogram?+

One kilogram equals approximately 2.20462 pounds.

A stone is a traditional British unit of weight equal to 14 pounds, still commonly used for body weight in the UK and Ireland.

There are 16 ounces in one pound.

What's the difference between a US ton and a metric ton?+

A US (short) ton is 2,000 pounds, or about 907.18 kilograms. A metric ton is exactly 1,000 kilograms, or about 2,204.6 pounds — roughly 10% heavier than a US ton. The UK's separate "long ton" (2,240 pounds) isn't included as its own unit here.

Is "weight" here the same thing as mass?+

Yes — in everyday use and in this calculator, weight and mass are treated interchangeably, which holds true for objects on Earth's surface. True weight is technically a force that varies with gravity, but that distinction only matters in contexts like spaceflight, not everyday conversions.
