Discount Calculator
The Discount Calculator shows your savings and final price after applying a percentage discount, with an option to stack a second discount on top. It's particularly handy during sales events that combine a storewide markdown with an extra coupon code or loyalty discount at checkout, since stacked percentages don't simply add together. Shoppers comparing two different stores' "better deal" claims can also use it to see the true final price rather than relying on the advertised discount alone.
How This Tool Works
Enter the original price and discount percentage. Add a second discount if you have a stacked coupon or clearance markdown.
Formula & Method
Price after first discount = original price × (1 − discount% ÷ 100). If a second discount is stacked, it's applied to that reduced price, not the original.
Example Calculation
A $150 jacket marked 30% off drops to $105, then an extra 15% off at checkout brings it down to $89.25 — a total savings of $60.75, or 40.5% off the original price. Note that this is less than simply adding 30% + 15% = 45%, because the second discount is calculated on the already-reduced $105 price, not the original $150.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do stacked discounts work?+
Stacked discounts apply one after another, not added together. A 25% discount followed by 10% off equals 32.5% total savings, not 35%.
Why isn't 25% + 10% equal to 35% off?+
Because the second discount is calculated on the already-reduced price, not the original price, so the combined effect is always slightly less than simply adding the percentages.
Does this include sales tax?+
No, this calculates the discounted price only. Use our Sales Tax Calculator afterward if you need the final price including tax.
Can I use this for a flat dollar-amount coupon instead of a percentage?+
This calculator is built for percentage-based discounts only. For a flat coupon like "$15 off," convert it to a percentage first by dividing the dollar amount by the original price and multiplying by 100, or just subtract the dollar amount directly from the price yourself.
Does the order of stacked discounts change the final price?+
No — the final price is the same regardless of which discount is applied first, since multiplication order doesn't matter. On an $80 item, applying 25% off then 10% off gives $54, and applying 10% off then 25% off also gives $54.
