Example: A 190 lb person who exercises 20 minutes a day and lives in a hot, humid climate. Base intake = 190 × 0.5 = 95 oz. Exercise adds (20 ÷ 30) × 12 = 8 oz, since the calculator scales the exercise bonus in 30-minute increments. Hot climate adds a flat 16 oz. Total = 95 + 8 + 16 = 119 oz per day — about 3.5 L, or just under 15 eight-ounce cups (14.9 cups). Switching to metric units for a comparable 86 kg person with the same activity and climate, the calculator first converts weight to pounds internally (86 kg × 2.20462 ≈ 189.6 lb) before applying the identical formula, landing at about 3.51 L (3,513 mL) per day — essentially the same target, just displayed in metric with different rounding precision.
